The committee assigned to reform the police is pondering three organisational restructuring models and an associated proposal to transfer 11 areas of policing to other state agencies. Along with these three models, the subcommittee also proposed to shift 11 areas of police work to be under the care of other state organisations, he said. Immigration work was proposed to be shifted to the Foreign Ministry; traffic control work to relevant local administrative bodies; and the tourist and highway police to the Transport Ministry, he said. The police reform committee plans to discuss these matters again at its next meeting set for Tuesday, Mr Pradit said. The subcommittee proposed the BRTP loses its authority to appoint the national police chief and maintain only policy-making duties.
